Summary
The IEEE AP-S Kansai Chapter & IEEE MTT-S Kansai Chapter, aiming to support universities and companies which base their activities in the Kansai region, held the Joint Young Engineers' Meeting in Kyoto in Dec. 21, 2013. In the first part of the meeting, four young engineers from the companies introduced the attraction of their research activities and how to spend their daily lives in laboratory. And, in the second part, university students presented their latest works in a poster form.

Young Engineers' Presentations

Each panelists introduced various interesting stories that are not presented in employment seminars or lectures, including their challenge toward different fields of research, details of their transfers from the research section to the development branch, what is needed for newly hired employees and the state of enterprise researches. In the panel discussion, they were also questioned continuously, from students to professors, things such as what they did to reach the level of teaching from that of being taught, or how they balance between studies and creative works. The whole IEEE MTT-S Kansai Chapter committee members are glad to have made a contribution in the fruitful exchange between students and companies.

Poster Session

Following the lectures by the younger researchers, poster session by the students was held to introduce their own researches to the attendees from companies and other universities. 54 marvelous posters, treating from a very promising cutting-edge technology to a novel concept, were presented (18 posters from AP-S, and 36 from MTT-S). From those, we have awarded the presenters with the greatest future prospects, completion level of the posters and the appropriate questions and answers.

Banquet at Kanbai-Kan

The banquet started out with a greeting message from Prof. Maeda, Chair of IEEE AP-S Kansai Chapter and a toast by Prof. Ishikawa, Chair of IEEE MTT-S Kansai Chapter. In the banquet, the panelists of companies, the university students and professors had a candid conversation, and it became very frankly. As is customary of the IEEE MTT-S Kansai Chapter, the meeting was closed with a single handclap "ippon-jime" by Prof. Ishizaki, Vice Chair of IEEE MTT-S Kansai Chapter.
