講演内容(Abstract)

Agents in a shared environment typically need to coordinate their decisions to avoid taking actions that separately make sense but which collectively lead to conflicts or counterproductive activities. While many strategies for coordinating decisions and negotiating over alternative interactions have been studied, they predominantly assume that agents already know what issues need to be coordinated, or which agents need to coordinate, or both. However, in some environments, an agent might not know about who the other agents in the environment are, much less about which of their activities need to be coordinated with its own. In this talk, I will describe some of the strategies we have been investigating that allow agents to efficiently identify others that they should interact with, and to make commitments to each other that prevent conflicts while still giving individuals some flexibility for dealing with dynamic changes to the environment.

講演者略歴(Biography)

Edmund H. Durfee received the MS degree in electrical and computer engineering and the PhD degree in computer and information science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Mass., in 1984 and 1987, respectively. His PhD research developed an approach for planning coordinated actions and interactions in a network of distributed AI problem-solving systems. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan, where his interests are in distributed artificial intelligence, planning, and real-time problem solving. He has published extensively in these areas, and is author of the book Coordination of Distributed Problem Solvers (Kluwer Academic Press). He is an associate editor for the International Journal on Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems, and has served on many conference and workshop program committees, including being a program co-chair for the 1998 International Conference on Multi-Agent Systems (ICMAS) and the Conference Chair for the 2000 ICMAS.
