1. Perspective of IEEE activities in Japan

Keep activities of the Long Range Strategy Committee and widely discuss the ways of enhancing presence/status of Japan within IEEE through collaborating with related domestic scientific/technical organizations.
As a first step toward this, newly set up Award Committee and start activities for improving engineer's social status for the members in Japan.

2. Promotion of inter-sectional collaboration and support

    • Support the activities of all the sections in Japan.
    • Take control of the database of all the members in Japan and offer services
      such as information delivery.
    • Hold a board meeting in a local section to strengthen cooperation between
      sections.
    • Support the activities of the Chapter Operations Committee, the Student
      Activities Committee and Affinity Group.
    • Place emphasis on measures to increase the number of the IEEE members
      in Japan.
    • Considering increasing numbers of membership unrenewed for 2009,
      investigate a way of increasing membership in Japan. Also, try to increase
      the ratio of higher grade membership.
    • Provide support for inter-sectional collaborations such as the collaboration
      between Tokyo Section and Boston Section and Seoul Section.
    • Keep activities of the History Committee (2009-2010). Search and find potential
      candidates for IEEE Milestone and support their application via close collaboration
      with each domestic section.

3. Schedule of 2009 Japan Council Committee Meeting

The First Meeting -  March 30 (Mon) in Tokyo
The Second Meeting - August 3 (Mon) in Nagoya
The Third Meeting -  December 14 (Mon) in Tokyo

5. Close Tie with IEEE Headquarters

The Japan Council will take every opportunity to have meetings with visitors from the IEEE Headquarters, exchanging information on IEEE activities. It also supports IEEE's 125th Anniversary Event to be held in Tokyo this autumn.

6.Promotion of Collaborative Activity with the National Academic Societies

The council will promote the cooperative relation with national societies in Japan.

    • The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE)
    • The Illuminating Engineering Institute of Japan (IEIJ)
    • Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ)
    • The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ)
    • The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE)
    • The Information and System Society of IEICE (ISS-IEICE)
    • The Japan Society for Science Policy and Research Management (JSSPRM)
